Still having the problem. I just wanted to mention, that this is not a i386 specific bug. I have a x86_64 system and i get the same bug as John Markh describes.

Also have an x86_64 system, and have the problem, and all my packages are up to date.

This only happens by SIP calls, both incoming or outgoing.

Google Talk calls, even with video still work fine without any problems.

Just checked using lucid rc - empathy doesn't freeze, I can accept the incoming call but then it stays in 'Connecting...' status and nothing happens. It used to to work fine in Karmic.

I see the same issue AttilaN describes in his last comment. I can connect to SIP accounts on both Gimzo5 and on SipGate. I get registered fine, I see the incoming call fine, I can accept the call fine, the window for the call opens and says "Connecting...", but then the call never actually connects. Same two accounts are working fine in Ekiga, so it's not a networking issue. I've run Empathy from the command line and there are no errors/warnings in the log traffic -- just all good sounding debug messages.

I can confirm the bug as well, I successfully register with sipgate but when I try to make a call (either another voip or standard cell phone), the call doesnt connect.

this might be related to bug 566378 or maybe the same. can you please install the latest version of telepathy-farsight2 from telepathy ppa https://launchpad.net/~telepathy/+archive/ppa and check if the issue is still there

I had the frozen issue with default version of telepathy in Lucid. I upgraded all packages with the PPA and now I can make calls and I think I can receive too (Didn't try though yet). The only thing I miss is that the PPA version is not integrated as well as the default Lucid version (I guess it should be easy to find how to do it).

i still have the same problem after adding the telepathy PPA repositories. I can receive a call but on screen it still says "connecting" in the bottom left. This is very frustrating and I hope they fix this soon.

attached is the output from when the call started to when i ended it approximately 15 seconds afterwards (by which time it was confirmed that I could not hear the caller nor could they hear me).
