Bug Description

Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop

When I try to setup this printer the default "gimp-print" driver doesn´t work, when I select it I get an error about the driver not being available.
The "gutenprint" driver does work, but it assumes "letter" as paper size which it shouldn´t on a german installation.

Thank you for filing this bug.
This doesn't sound like a KDE problem to me, reassigning.

Could you see if you still have this problem on Edgy?

This is a problem of the printer setup tool. If the default/recommended driver of a printer entry does not exist in the installed Foomatic database, the tool should not create a menu entry for this driver. It should behave as there was no default driver.

Returning bug to kdebase ...

Bug #84999 is a similar problem (in foomatic-gui).

Can you attach the output of the printingbug info script and the CUPS error_log for this problem as described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems.

It does not give an option for Epson Stylus C86 in the printer driver options. You can not even select an Epson Stylus C86 because it is not an option to select in your drop down list. For this reason I have left for PClinuxOS. Also a KDE product that seems to have no problem giving the correct driver. This is probably not a KDE problem since other KDE distros are not having a problem.

karlrhs, you are suffering bug #99372.

Probably the other distros have individually patched the KDE Printing Manager and not submitted the patch upstream or they use other printer setup tools by default. In the former case we should take the patches from the other distros, in the latter case Kubuntu should use system-config-printer and hal-cups-utils by default.

Marking as fix released due to a C86 driver option being available in both Hardy and Gutsy at this time. If you feel this is still an issue, I urge you to reopen this report. Thanks!
