Bug Description

It would be nice if the Firefox locale packages would install the locale specific search plugins.

For example, if I install the en-gb version of Firefox on Windows, it comes with the search plugins for Amazon.co.uk, Ebay.co.uk, etc. rather then the American versions. It would be nice if the mozilla-firefox-locale-en-gb package would install these plugins system wide, for example, rather than have to go and find them all seperately.

I also vote for this. When installing a german version of Edgy I have search engines like answers.com which are just not applicable for (many) german users. And the wikipedia plugin searches the english wikipedia.

+1 to this.
One of the most important statements on Ubuntu was localization. Linux for human beings, not only Linux for english-knowing human beings ;)

This is the related thread I started today:

I'd also would like to see localized search plugins, especially for Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Ebay, and german dictionaries.

I also thinks it's very important, especially when you have it when installing firefox with the good locale on Windows

Another vote for this one since Hardy has also not fixed this bug.
Current workaround for Wikipedia search plugin in German:
Browse to the German Wikipedia page, search for something and and look for the search bar area in Firefox. There you should see that the drop-down arrow/buttom is highlighted in orange. Clicking on it will give you a new proposed entry "Wikipedia (de) hinzufügen" (meaning to add Wikipedia search in German).

Still not supported with intrepid
Non-english novice users could find this really annoying, why can't this be fixed?
