Bug Description

Dear Ubuntu MOTU Developers ,

I'm a member of Mandatory Opensource Software Translation project for Vietnamese and a moderator of Ubuntu-VN community.

As far I know that the language-support-input-vi provide scim-m17n which support Vietnamese input method. But In karmic and lucid this package "didn't come up with any input method for Vietnamese yet".

Ubuntu-VN community has recently developed an input method for scim and ibus from the most popular open-source Vietnamese input method engine for Windows ( http://unikey.org ).
Scim-unikey and ibus-unikey are stable now, they have been used by many Vietnamese users.
So I think It is good enough to replace scim-m17n for Vietnamese input method because they are smart and have many feature than m17n.
Could you please move ibus-unikey and scim-unikey to main repository and add it to language-support-input-vi? We could easily to help Vietnamese Ubuntu user because it will be default when user install Vietnamese language.

Sincerely,

http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/language-support-input-vi

The scim-unikey and ibus-unikey package has been recently imported to universe repository from debian.

In order to move ibus-unikey into main, we need to have a Main Inclusion Request ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionProcess ) filed against the ibus-unikey package. When that gets approved, we can add the package to the language-support-input-vi meta package.

As you might know the ibus-unikey package better than me, could you help out with filing the Main Inclusion Request and checking that the requirements are met?

Thanks a lot.

I filed the [MIR] at https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ibus-unikey/+bug/543158 1 week ago. But there are no new information. I wonder how long it take the MIR team to review our bug, but the beta 2 freeze will be on April 1st. If we miss it, we can't add it to the language-support package. The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training has recommended to use Ubuntu in education, this is a chance to persuade schools to change to Ubuntu. So in the LTS release if we have a software written by Vietnamese for Vietnamese, people can trust the development of FLOSS in Vietnam,

MIR has been approved, I have added ibus-unikey to language-support-input-vi and uploaded the new package.
