Bug Description

[Reproduction:]
Boot daily lucid iso 64 bit desktop loopback from hd via grub2. (last checked with 20100310)
Hit return with the mouse over empty Desktop space right after first login.

[Original Report:]
Booting todays iso 64 bit (loopback from hd via grub2):

So far 2 times out of 2:
I go straight to the network manager; select my network; password dialogue comes up; (I use WEP); Selecting passphrase and show password; typing in password and hit return; I am logged out;

Does not happen if I click the confirmation button instead of hitting return.

This might be a very fresh regression, though I might always have used the button before (not that likely). I don't remeber having seen this before today. I have been booting from a fresh iso at least every few days.

Thank you for your bug report, could you uninstall plymouth and try if that's still an issue? could be bug #510524 or similar

Changed in gnome-keyring (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Incomplete

I don't really see how to pull this off in a meaningful way since this is from a loopback mounted iso. I can uninstall plymouth, but that does not affect the bug. I assume the change you are aiming at would take effect only after reboot without plymouth.

Found out that just hitting return (the mouse was over empty desktop) logs me out, too. So nothing to do with gnome-keyring, I guess. This looks a lot like bug 518811 "Enter Key crashes Ubuntu 10.04 latest update". Without the freeze that many seem to have. But like there, this does only occur on first login here.

Searched the logs. All I can find is this in the auth.log. I hit return at 11:39:30:

I also ran into bug #518352:
When booting without the splash argument gnome-session is on tty1. When I hit return it logs me out. After logging in again gnome-session then is on tty7.
When booting with the splash argument gnome-session is on tty7. (I have to hit ctrl+alt+F7 to see the desktop in this case; I am initially presented with a text console.). When I hit return it also logs me out.
So this bug here is independent of bug #518352.

This bug seems to be strongly related to bug 532047: Hitting "2" logs me out just like hitting return. (I just tried. a, 0, 1 or 2-9 do not trigger this.)

Since Steve Langasek says in a comment to bug 532047: "... this is a well understood bug in plymouth that is in the process of being fixed." I think it is best to make this bug here a duplicate and then just wait for a new plymouth package.
