Bug Description

software-center 1.0.3, Ubuntu 9.10

Similar to bug 460888, it would be nice to have the Software Center show the rate of the software download.

See attached mockup.

<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareCenter#installing>: "When you request to install a software item ... the status text for the item should be ... the standard status text for the operation."

<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwarePackageOperations#general>: "Whenever the task involves downloading any software, the status text should be “Downloaded {amount} of {total} ({rate})” if the download rate is stable, otherwise just “Downloaded {amount} of {total}”. For example, “Downloaded 15.6 MB of 131.0 MB (24 MB/s)”."

I'm noticing this in Alpha 3 of 10.04 right now. Program listed to install, but percentage remains at 0%. If i reboot, it is possible that the application finished installing and there is an icon available in the application list and the program works.

Hi, mrandrzejak, I think you should read the description carefully to this report. I believe that your issue is a separate report and that you should file one.

Bug #883625 (about showing remaining time) seems to be related, as they both need design (or at least feedback why we should not display them), so it might help solving both of these at the same time.
