Confirmed here. Slider under ccsm's "General Options" always moves back down to 2 from 4

This hit me as well last night in a Karmic - Lucid upgrade. Also, in Karmic, I had already had 6 workspaces configured, and desktop wall turned on with sliding and such... none of that was enabled, and I am stuck with 2 workspaces and no way to enable more.

That's the worst part because I use 4 - 6 workspaces to organize my workflow throughout the day, so for me, this is a big issue.

sorry, for late reply.
This was in Lucid lynx beta 2 fresh install.
Bug is not present in Lucid Lynx final fresh install.

Hi pererik86...

Are you sure about the fresh install? Did you mean Alpha 2 ?

This bug seemed to have disappeared by the time 10.04 was released. Since then I have installed Lucid on several systems and have not seen this issue recur.

Any administrator: Mark this bug as fixed, it is not present any more.

@jeff Yes as i said. Its not present in the final. It has been fixed long time ago.

@Ian Fleming, Yes i meant Alpha 2, three months later i didn't remember which one it was.. (why do you insist i might be wrong about having a fresh install???)

Thanks to everyone that has been helping out on this post.

As a side note - this is probably just a confusion between desktops and workspaces. If you actually change "number of desktops", you will not change the workspace layout. Desktops are generally not used in compiz and we(Compiz-people) we've been stupid not to remove that option years ago as it only serves to confuse users.

You have to dig REALLY deep to find any bindings that allow you to switch _desktops_ and not workspaces. Desktops are unused because you only map the windows on the current desktop. For Compiz, that means you can't see any content in windows not on the current desktop, which makes it impossible to have a cube across desktops or see a live preview of a window on a different desktop. By using a single desktop but multiple workspaces, this is a non-issue. Unfortunately, this is awkward and confusing X-terminology which is only natural to people who know the majority of the EWMH by heart. It should never had made it into a config option as-is.

Of course, it could be something different, but I figured I'd offer an explanation anyway (should've looked at this bug myself before it went this stale - sorry for that)
