Bug Description

Binary package hint: usb-creator

usb- creator killed my mp3 player like i said, i tried this in 9.04 AND 9.10.
ok, i tried doing this every way, there was more than enough space so i tried installing it through that root, and it failed.(not sure what the msg was,but im NOT doing this again)
Then i tried allowing it to format the drive, and it failed, with a unable to format msg or whatnot, and afterwards no system would recognize my mp3 player, no matter what. no system would format it.(windows even said, it was 'write-protected'... which was kinda funny).

so i almost lost a 'not-cheap' piece of hardware yesterday because of ubuntu, -thank you-.

how to solve this:
i tried lots of applications(windows and linux), but none seem to be able to actually re-format the drive; so i downloaded the samsung suite 5(or media something), and it still would NOT recognize the drive, but it did install some drivers into xp i think. after that winXP was able to do a regular format to the weird and unknown drive it had found... and the the drive went back to its normal healthy state, and the samsung suite found it, end of story.

no linux tool was able to achieve this, i tried many.(testdisk, ddrescue, you name it) gparted doesnt even recognize the drive as a 1gb one... how absurd is that?

anyways, problem reported. i consider this urgent, since an unexperienced user might have its hardware borked, and then go around saying: -oh ubuntu kills flash drives, linux is dangerous, dont use it!

And yes... windows did save the day. sad, sad, sad.

best of luck to all,

cheers
