This exception was raised when I clicked "Install" in the LottaNZB package view. The installation was performed successfully, though.

The value for the channel column is missing. I'm not sure what value should be used as the channel name, but None or an empty string would at least fix the ValueError.

Whenever I get this bug, the "In Progress" section also doesn't appear. I don't know whether that's a symptom of the same bug, or a different bug.

This happens continually, while installing any program. No idea why. Possibly related to this?

I got the same error when just after I entered the admin password to start installing. I'm not sure if it matters but I had Synaptic open at that time and I couldn't switch to close it first

Synaptic is working fine for me.

I got the same error trying to install sun java6 from the software center. the installation was not successful .

Yeah I just got the error again. This time synaptic was off. Neither apt nor update-manager was running

This error appeared when clicking install on the app GParted, but it downloaded and installed it with no problems. (On lucid i386).

Thank you everyone for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better, the time and effort that you spend is very much appreciated!

Fix has been committed to the lucid development trunk and will be available in the next development release of software-center (which will be version 1.1.13).

@mpt, your guess in comment #11 was correct in that this bug also caused the "In Progress" section to not appear. This is fixed now as well; the In Progress section appears as normal.
