Bug Description

Binary package hint: likewise-open

On Ubuntu LucidLynx,
Likewise-open 5.4.0.39949-3,
Samba Version 3.4.5.
1A.)
I logged this question on the Likewise forum at: http://www.likewise.com/community/index.php/forums/viewthread/608/

1B.)
I have this error in file /var/log/samba/log.winbindd-idmap:

[2010/02/13 18:21:36, 0] winbindd/idmap.c:149(smb_register_idmap)
Idmap module nss already registered!
[2010/02/13 18:21:36, 0] lib/module.c:59(do_smb_load_module)
Error trying to resolve symbol ‘init_samba_module’ in /usr/lib/samba/idmap/lwicompat_v4.so: /usr/lib/samba/idmap/lwicompat_v4.so: undefined symbol: init_samba_module
[2010/02/13 18:21:36, 1] winbindd/idmap.c:580(idmap_alloc_init)
could not find idmap alloc module lwicompat_v4

and I get same error if I use /usr/lib/samba/idmap/libwbclient.so

via this line in /etc/samba/smb.conf:

idmap backend = libwbclient

2.)
I got this response back:
"Likewise does not yet have support for Samba 3.4. We don’t have a timeline for 3.4 support yet. "

3.)
Likewise is mentioned in LucidLynx Technical Overview:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidLynx/TechnicalOverview#Updated%20Packages

Therefore:
Maybe someone should put a disclaimer in there that Likewise-Open may not be supporting
Samba 3.4.5
or someone should be contacting or informing Likewise-open that LucidLynx is expecting
a port and that they should do one quickly as we are approaching Alpha 3 release on Feb 25th.

My understanding is that Likewise offers an alternative to Winbind, what are you specifically trying to achieve ?
I've asked Likewise to further comment.

from say a Windows machine, I want to attach to the Samba share on the Linux machine.
So I would: Start--> Run -> \\linuxMachineName\first.last
A login box would pop up.
Once I enter my ActiveDirectory username/password in the dialog box and click OK,
I would get promted again for the username/password.
Thus the glue, the Samba integration, that likewise provides isn't working on LucidLynx. (works fine on HardyHeron)

On April 5th, Likewise-Open confirmed that they will not support the Samba integration
for Lucid platform.

Thus the solution that I chose, is to:
       `sudo apt-get purge likewise-open`

and implement the native solution using winbind and samba.

Now that I got that working, I can't see what
benefit there is to using Likewise-Open, other than it does all the manual configuration steps
for you but then sticks in its own glue which evidently can get in the way when Likewise-Open
decides to not support a feature that is native with samba/winbind.

Thanks for using Likewise Open in the past. Sorry I couldn't give you the feature request you desired.

I need the above functionality + wine and fusesmb.
But, I can't install wine which needs winbind.
