irc does not work on empathy, network error

Binary package hint: empathy

as per closed bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/428971 moving the .purple folder fixed this issue. What is also curious once I got into IRC and closing all apps, putting the .purple folder back still allows empathy to use irc.
