i have the same problem
my solution : go here and download the .deb http://www.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/

the name is a little disturbing, but it's a new mysql tool that replace both mysql-query-browser and mysql-administrator

I've choozen this solution also. But it is an alpha version and the ssh is not supported yet (python library problem with md5 function in ubuntu alpha3)... The other functionnalities works fine however (even if the tool is too heavy and that i am less prductive with it, by the way command lines are good also :))

Actually a better workbench version can be found here

http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/5.2.html

because it includes functionality from MySQL Query Browser too.

Sadly, Workbench is very demanding of screen size, so it's a pain to
use on 1024x768.

As far as I can tell this is no longer a problem.
