apt-get source broken on karmic

Binary package hint: dpkg

When trying to retrieve the source of a package on karmic with apt-get source, the command breaks with the following messages:

(using libpng as an example it happens with any package)

Please what are the file permissions on /tmp/libpng_1.2.37.orig.tar.gz.tmp-extract.Gj0Er/libpng-1.2.37 ?

I don't think that dpkg is to blame here. It's more likely some invalid permissions via umask or similar.

Of course before running the command, none of the files existed at all. It was not a permission issue, I verified this.
I still have no idea where the problem came from. I haven't seen it anymore since I upgraded.Z
