Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv

Note: This bug is with NVidia driver not nv, just in case :)

Installed Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 2 64-bit with repository update.

On system 1:

Installed NVidia-current from synaptic
Reboot the system and start using the environment
Type any text in terminal (xterm / gnome-terminal) or gedit or Firefox or Synaptic
Press Enter

Actual result:

System just hangs

On System 2:

Download NVidia package from download.nvidia.com for the card and install it
Reboot the system and start using the environment
Type sudo su - or launch synaptic and let the password dialog pops up
Press Enter (only for sudo)

Actual result:

System just reboots

Additional info:

System configuration same as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nv/+bug/435570

Tried with both Single and Dual monitor

Could not reproduce this with Vesa driver. Unable to use xserver-xorg-video-nv due to the above bug. We need to use this system with Dual monitor.

If you need any additional info, please let me know.

Thanks

I'm having the same problem. I also had another problem reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/522554
Upon logging in again after that, hitting Enter doesn't seem to hang the system anymore.

I think the problem here is not Nvidia drivers nor nv drivers.
Instead, this is a plymouth problem.
Removing the package plymouth helps here.
And, this is thus a duplicate of the bug 516412
