Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

For example, install wine1.2 and install winrar with it. Then open some files with with. You will see that the open with... panel has many copies of the winrar program (as many as you run ? ). I wasn't sure this was a wine bug or nautilus, but it seems to me that that model should be a orderedset so i filled it here.

wine issue not registering the software in the right way? do you experience the issue with any other software installed trough wine?

I think the problem is that Wine registers mime types in the native desktop for anything an installed Windows application supports and there is no easy way to manage them. These registrations are located in ~/.local/share/applications and moving the files elsewhere (not the subdirectories!) removes the association and thus clears them from the Open With dialog.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. A new version of Nautilus is available on Maverick and we are wondering if this bug is still an issue for you with that version? Could you please test and comment back? Thanks in advance.

I haven't noticed any difference. Note that i really meant the "open with other application menu", not just the right click context menu.

Yep i deleted the associations on ~/.local/share/application and the ~/.wine dir, reinstalled winrar and opened some files again. Behaviour returned.

But the reason is actually clear now:
mimeapps.list wine-extension-png.desktop wine-extension-r23.desktop
mimeinfo.cache wine-extension-r00.desktop wine-extension-r24.desktop

wine-extension-lha.desktop wine-extension-r21.desktop wine-extension-zip.desktop
wine-extension-lzh.desktop wine-extension-r22.desktop

It's winrar being a bad boy and the wine associotion not being totally clear. The "open with other application" seems to consider each rar association a "application"
