Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd

Please remove -radeonhd from the archive. It doesn't work with kernel modesetting turned on, and while KMS can be disabled there's little reason to keep the driver around, since -ati is what we support.

There are no reverse deps other than from the -dbg package.

Here's an example bug what happens with the driver in lucid:

apparently the radeon drm driver doesn't support audio-on-hdmi on 2.6.32, so this can't be dropped before the support for it has been pulled from .33, or when MM has the newer kernel.

We've got 2.6.35 in MM, and that contains audio-on-hdmi. There's no reason for users to use this driver over -ati, and it doesn't work with the default Ubuntu configuration.

Please remove it from the archive.

xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd, compiled from sources, works normally at now on Maverick with 2.6.35-22-generic linux core!
Please rewind this package to ubuntu repo!

Murz, are you saying that the default -ati driver does not work equally well?

In default -ati driver I didn't have the 3D acceleration, and other features from radeonhd driver, so in Lucid I use radeonhd but after upgrade to maverick, I lost it.
Video is Radeon RS880

Murz, please file a bug using "ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-ati" while running the -ati driver. We would rather have -ati fixed than to maintain two drivers for the same hardware.

I also have serious problems using the default -ati driver on Maverick. In Lucid I had acceptable 3d acceleration (with the default drivers). I wanted to try the Unity interface, so I made a new installation of Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.10 (on a separate partition). 3d acceleration is bad, I can't use Unity (blank screen), Compiz is so slow that is not usable, glxgears doesn't work, but glxinfo shows "direct rendering: yes". My card is ATI RS690M Radeon X1200. So I tried to install radeonhd, but it's not available...

I can't find the way to add ubuntu-bug-report to this bug (I try to set the same name, number of the bug, but it isn't show me this bug for attach report) ando create the new bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/664933
Maybe better go to that bug for continue resolving problem with ati driver?

André Oliva, can you attach your "ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-ati" to bug #664933 too? I hope it helps quicker resolve the problem.

Murz, you should not add apport information to this bug, but file new bugs about each issue with the -ati driver. This bug report is about removing -radeonhd from the repositories, which is done so this bug is closed. And please don't mix information from different cards into one bug report, it is better to file new ones. BTW, RS880 (Evergreen) will only be officially supported in 11.04 and it will not work any better with -radeonhd since the 3D support is in mesa and kernel.
