Bug Description

Distribution and hardware: Kubuntu 9.10 AMD64 on Dell Inspiron 640m.

~$ apt-cache policy kpackagekit
kpackagekit:
  Installed: 0.4.2-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 0.4.2-0ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 0.4.2-0ubuntu3 0
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I am not sure if it is a problem with policykit-kde, because I reinstalled it, and the problem still persist. Also I removed Kpackagekit and then installed it again. When uninstalling a package it asks for password, but always reject it. The user and passord is correct, I can perform the same tasks with Synaptic Package Manager. I can install software without problem, but Kpackagekit never asks for authentication.

There's no "policykit-kde" package in karmic [1]. If you have one, remove it, it might be a forgotten package from jaunty.

I have kubuntu and kpackagekit (on policykit-gnome) and I can't reproduce your issue. Do you have some specific policy in policykit ?

This bug might be a dup of #448661

You are right. Actually I have policykit-1-gnome. I made a "copy & paste mistake" because I copied the name of the package from the one selected (suggested) in the report bug page. I do not have any special policykit, but I purged and reinstalled the policyKit package with the hope of fix this problem. I would want to reset the policies to the default ones, but I do not know how to do it.

I tried the solution proposed in #448661, by changing in section system settings > advanced > policykit authorization > org.freedesktop > the packagekit project > '''Remove package''', the Explicit authorization list of it was empty and I granted to myself with no restrictions. Now KpackageKit unistalls packages without prompting for user password (in my session). Although it is a workaround is not what I want. I want KpackageKit do prompt for the password.
