Bug Description
Binary package hint: usb-modeswitch
the system see the usb modem only as a storage device. I have tried many solutions found in web for similar devices but it doesn't work in any way. the system is kubuntu 9.10 and the package was installed from .deb archive and update from official repository

See above patch. 0x12d1:0x1520 will need a specific usb_modeswitch command, that is not (yet) incorporated in the udev rules. Adding a line with
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor} =="12d1" , SYSFS{idProduct }=="1520" , RUN+="/ usr/sbin/ usb_modeswitch --default-vendor 0x12d1 --default-product 0x1520 --message-content 555342431234567 800000000000000 110600000000000 000000000000000 00"
... in /etc/udev/ rules.d/ usb_modeswitch. rules fixes this.
