Upgrading to deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/thjaeger/xorg-xi2/ubuntu karmic main
helps to avoid the crash of wacom.

But the touch driver is still not working.

Bug affects 32bit Karmic as well (I installed it as I read some reports of similar bug being attributed to 64-bit platform only).
Confirming the bug.

After upgrading touch is disabled completely, so does not affect the behavior - the touch does not work, but does not disturb wacom drivers.

This was nominated for lucid but I do not see evidence here (in the form of logs) that lucid has been tested for this bug. Please test lucid beta 1 or newer and let us know whether this bug still exists. There's been some rather dramatic changes to the wacom driver this release so it could well be that this is resolved now.

Are backports for karmic available in a ppa ?
An upgrade to lucid is currently not feasable here.

I've just tested it on Lucid Beta 2 and it is OK now, the pen is still working even after I touch the screen with my fingers.

Thanks for letting us know the issue is resolved. I'll leave the karmic task open in case anyone wishes to pursue doing an sru, but given that lucid release is mere weeks away, it's not something the ubuntu-x team is likely to pursue ourselves.

status: Incomplete → Fix Released

Karmic has long since stopped to receive any updates. Marking the Karmic task for this ticket as "Won't Fix".
