Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Device: ZTE EvDO ac8700 Rev0(with operator BSNL,India and Reliance,India)

Problem: "Network Disconnected -You are offline" in Karmic Koala

From when? : Before Jaunty we were using wvdial package to establish connection then Jaunty was launched and we got gift as the network manager was now recognising the device as "Auto Mobile CDMA Connection" and establishing the the connection. But in Karmic this bug ruined down the situation and Lucid is also carrying on with this bug. I had tried it on VM to check whether or not the bug is fixed but again the same disappointment.

Effect: We are not able to use Empathy and many other apps which check connection from network manager and most inconvenient thing is to dial and disconnect manually with bit long waiting time. I don't know where is the right place to inform this thing. But if you know then please let me know so that I can put it over there.

I am also having the same. I tried in Ubuntu 9.04 Network Manager to connect EVDO to make sure whether it supports the modem without any problem and it connected. Then I installed Ubuntu 9.10 and tried. Not connected and says You are Offline.

I have to install wvdial to connect to the internet. So I can't properly use Ubuntu One/ Empathy or any other future things that checks network manager whether the computer is connected to internet.

It shouldn't be like that-checking a specific manager whether it is connected because may be lot of other options are there in Linux.

Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Karmic reached EOL on April 30, 2011.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:

I've tried recreating this bug with Oneiric and was unable to, given the information you've provided. Please either a) upgrade and test or b) increase the verbosity of the steps to recreate it so we can try again.

Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
