does not generate seektables

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

I ripped a whole bunch of audio CDs using sound-juicer (2.26.1-0ubuntu1)
in ubuntu 9.04 and made Flac files by the same software. I found two problems:
– You can not move playback position of such files in alsaplayer (alsaplayer-gtk 0.99.80-3ubuntu1). However, playback position can be moved in e.g. VLC.
– Playback of some files stops in the middle of the track.

When I ripped by asunder (1.6.2-1) I did not have such problems.

As for playback stopping in the middle of a track, it happens when playing by VLC (1.0.2-1ubuntu1~ppa1), but not by the alsaplayer, for instance. VLC gives this error message in terminal, as it stops playing in the middle of a track: "[0x8f83840] main input error: Invalid PCR value in ES_OUT_SET_(GROUP_)PCR !". "flac --test" gives ok for the files, but still re-encoding the files by flac removes the problems with the aforementioned players.

The inability to seek in some players is due to Sound Juicer not generating seektables. You can run a script that will correct files that you've already ripped (attached). Just execute it in the root of a directory containing a lot of flac files; it recursively searches and adds seektables.

Of course, the ideal solution would be to integrate seektable generation into the actual creation of the flac file.

This has been fixed in gstreamer1.0, which sound-juicer now uses.
