Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

I have fan-made video DVDs in the form of VIDEO_TS folders. I create a data DVD with Brasero, put a volume name, add my VIDEO_TS folder and burn. After the disc is burnt, it has a different name with spaces added after it (e.g. if I named my DVD "GHOSTS", I end up with "GHOSTS ": Brasero adds spaces to get 16 chars names) and is unreadable with Totem, VLC or in a DVD player.

Using Brasero 2.28.2 from karmic-updates and Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala).

Not sure it is related to the problem or if it can help but the properties of the unusable video DVDs says that filesystem of the disc is "isofs", while a DVD properly burnt with Windows (which is playable) has a "udf" filesystem.

Also, when I say that the DVDs burnt with Brasero are unreadable, it means that they are not recognized as video DVDs by Totem, VLC or such. The icon of the disc appear on the desktop and I can browse the files. I can play the VOB files by manually opening them with VLC but the menu and interactions are not usable.

No special chars. Here is an example (one of the DVDs that don't work as video DVDs or in a DVD player) :

/media/cdrom/VIDEO_TS:
VIDEO_TS.BUP VIDEO_TS.VOB VTS_01_0.IFO VTS_01_1.VOB VTS_01_3.VOB
VIDEO_TS.IFO VTS_01_0.BUP VTS_01_0.VOB VTS_01_2.VOB VTS_01_4.VOB

I got the VIDEO_TS folder wth thoses files, I created a data CD with Brasero, put the folder at DVD root, choosed a name (e.g. "GHOSTS") ans burnt it. Got an unusable DVD that as a name with blank spaces after "GHOSTS" for its name, up to 16 chars.

Also, I forgot to add some info: first, I created an ISO file from Brasero by burning to its virtual burner (i.e. no disc in my hardware burner so that Brasero would write an ISO). When burning the ISO, I got the problem I described above. Then I tried to burn the folder/files directly and it didn't work any better.
But if I mount the ISO as /mnt and open /mnt as a DVD device in VLC, it works as expected (DVD video readable with navigation that works). I guesse the problem resides in the ISO label / volume info set by Brasero or is somewhat related to it.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Oneiric Ocelot. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
