Binary package hint: gnome-media

Hardware: CMI8788 [Oxygen HD Audio] - Asus Xonar DX
Bug: Sound freeze for a few seconds when changing volume while playing song regardless of using any media player, problem since Ubuntu 9.10 - Ubuntu 10.04, no problem with Ubuntu 9.04 or lower.
Other none related issue: No front panel and multi channel setting in new gnome-volume-control.

If all normal users know how to do that, they probably modified the code and fixed the problem themselves.

Please note that you can use the most current daily live Lucid cd from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

Confirmed on 9.10.

* Device is a Asus Xonar PCI-E sound card in a Dell Precision 670 Workstation.
* Kernel 2.6.31-21.59
* Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.20 (latest from ppa)

The problem does not affect the use of alsamixer to change volume, so I don't think the problem is directly with alsa, but rather, how pulseaudio is interacting with alsa with this driver.

This release of Ubuntu is no longer receiving maintenance updates. If this is still an issue on a maintained version of Ubuntu please let us know.

Well that's one way to resolve a bug:

Accuse the user of not trying hard enough, then wait ten years and close the bug because the product it was reported on is no longer supported.

Way to go, guys. Let's all give Ubuntu's bug management staff a big hand.

I really am sorry this issue went unanswered for so long :( The backlog we've accrued here is truly unfortunate. We'd really like to see the situation improve, but with over 3000 open bugs, manually testing each is almost impossible now. The aim today was to ping these older bugs and allow anyone still effected to respond and put their bug onto the radar again.
