Bug Description

Binary package hint: f-spot

Ubuntu release: Karmic Koala
Package version: f-spot 0.6.1.5-0ubuntu1
Expected: F-spot to open and ready to use
Happened instead: only a short glimpse of the F-spot window in top right corner of screen before it closes.

When run through command in terminal following message is received (main part of message similar to #506987):

pappa@PAPPA-2:~$ f-spot

(/usr/lib/f-spot/f-spot.exe:5468): GdkPixbuf-WARNING **: GdkPixbufLoader finalized without calling gdk_pixbuf_loader_close() - this is not allowed. You must explicitly end the data stream to the loader before dropping the last reference.
The program '/usr/lib/f-spot/f-spot.exe' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 2956 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Does this occur while using the Appearance theme New Wave? If so, it could be bug #411941.

If I put it like this, I have installed Karmic on four different
computers lately; an Acer 5020 laptop with AMD 64 processor (runs 32-bit
Karmic), a IBM desktop NetVista 8310krg with P4 2,54 GHz, a department
store low-low-low and even lower spec, and finally my recent home build
Core i5 on Gigabyte P55 mobo.

There are 19 user accounts altogether on these four computers and only
one of them can open F-spot correctly, i.e. the administrator account on
the IBM desktop (there are eight accounts on this computer). At least
the admin accounts have all the default theme.

Something that struck me is if can have something to do with the live CD?

I live in Sweden and have of course down loaded the live-CD from Swedish
Ubuntu sites.

I am running

9.10
2.6.31-19-generic-pae
GNOME 2.28.1

and still have the problems described in #515120 although other users (#411941) have reported that "their" bug has been resolved.

So it does not seem to be a real duplicate.

Br,

I did another check on the Appearance themes and it shows that I have used a "Custom" theme in which F-spot fails to work. I never actively selected the "New Wave" though.

*Method: *Open Appearance theme selector, click on all themes one by one and for each selected theme start F-spot.

*Result:* F-spot sticks on the screen for all themes except for "New Wave" and "/Custom/".

*Conclusion:* Seems as if it is a 411941 duplicate after all.

*Question:* Who kills the 515120?
