klogd dies right after starting

Bug Description

On edgy with version 1.4.1-18ubuntu1, klogd seems to die after being called by start-stop-daemon who reports success and thus [ ok ] is printed. Yet only the 'dd' process remains on the system and kernel messages are not reported to syslog.
