GNOMEtris is very slow

Binary package hint: gnome-games

I am using: Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic), Kernel 2.6.31-14-generic, GNOME 2.28.1

I just installed this Ubuntu in my laptop. But I never play GNOMEtris game in order to it is very slow. What could be the reason?

My PC is: AMD Sempron(tm) SI-42, Memory 2,7 GiB

Gnometris is ultra slow on my newly purchased Compaq notebook with AMD processor running 2.1 gHz. The notebook has 2 gigs of RAM.

I have tried using all three provided themes and about 20 different combinations of user configurable items.
Nothing seems to help.
I realize that you are probably overwhelmed with work but... summarily dismissing a bug report as you have done can be taken as callousness.
