Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-686

This is a regression for breezy.

In Breezy, I had suspend/hibernate and resume working great with my hp nc6220 notebook. After upgrading to dapper, however, neither suspend nor hibernate seems to work.

To initiate either, I select Quit... from the System menu, and then select either Suspend or Hibernate from the screen that pops up. In both cases, I get a blank screen and password prompt, as if I'd selected Lock Screeen.

dmesg shows no new messages when I select either option. In /var/log/messages, I see

Jun 30 14:49:41 localhost gnome-power-manager: Suspending computer because the DBUS method Suspend() was invoked

or

Jun 30 14:53:58 localhost gnome-power-manager: Hibernating computer because the
DBUS method Hibernate() was invoked

depending on which option I selected.

This may be related to #50031, but the symptoms manifest themselves differently here: in #50031, the thinkpad goes into a 'half-suspended' state; here, it doesn't even try.

Er, it's a regression *FROM* Breezy. It's a regression *FOR* Dapper. Sorry about that.

Please confirm which version of linux-image you are using by doing:

dpkg -l | grep linux-image

Thanks

And still see the problem.

I'm confused-- does this mean the entire bug is closed, or you're just
saying the part of it that applies to linux-meta is closed?

"linux-meta" as the name implies, is simply a meta package, and contains no code, files or binaries that are installed on your system. The actual package which can fix the bug is linux-source-2.6.15, which is why that one remains open.

I don't have that hardware any longer, so I can't say. Sorry. :(
