Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

Ubuntu One briefly connects on system startup. Then disconnects. I have one document under Files, AA. When I update it in my Documents/AA folder and click on the Ubuntu One icon in the panel bar it briefly connects and then disconnects.

The document is not updated.

How does one do this updating automatically, regularly and safely.

Must I always force an update by going to the Ubuntu One "Go to Web" link on the Ubuntu One icon?

This is bewildering. (I went to college and graduated. Is this the problem??) I feel utterly stupid.

I am on Karmic Koala, 9.10 with the latest updates. ubuntuone-gnome-client Ubuntu 1.0.2-0ubuntu2

Thank you,

Ken Wagner

I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One isn't working properly for you. Fortunately, I think there is a workaround for this problem as I believe it's related to bug 455544 which occurs when the bandwidth preferences are set too low (or to the defaults). If you delete ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf and restart the Ubuntu One client, you should be able to connect. Thank you, Joshua

Joshua,

Thank you.

That worked.

I have one further concern: Only the files in my laptop's UbuntuOne
folder and sub-folders will be synchronized to UbuntuOne?
Any other files I want to synchronize to UbuntuOne must be added to my
laptop's Ubuntu One folder or one of its sub-folders, correct?

Joshua,
You hail from Mo., we are practically neighbours. Well at least in the scope of the large global Ubuntu Community. :)

About your question. Currently everything you want to be synced with your Ubuntu One account needs to be in your Ubuntu One folder. Different capabilities are being discussed and worked on. It probably wont be long before you have some additional options when it comes to specifying other folders for syncing. Whether that is through symlinks or specifying folders directly through the U1 client i am not sure. But as of right now you are correct in your statement that the files and directories must be in your U1 folder.
