Bug Description

All sounds in (k)ubuntu 9.10 (amd64) are played over the internal subwoofer (on a clean install). (haven't tested on 32-bit version)

i could fix the problem by upgrading alsa driver and changing the options in the alsa-base.conf to
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop

Does using linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic not suffice
(after a reboot)?

haven't tried that, i think the new version of alsa solved the problem. If the newest version of alsa is in the backports it would probably solv the problem.

Hi LinuxUser,

Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 513337

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

Please let us know your results.

Well, i'm running current karmic release now. Sound is working just a minor problem remains, if i shut down the pc it does some strange sounds like if there is a voltage directed to the speakers which is chancing.

Probably it could be solved if you first unload the sound module before shutting down or ajust the sound level to 0.
