Bug Description
Binary package hint: lvm2
The latest version of lvm2 i 2.02.59. Somewhere in between this version and the latest version packaged by Ubuntu (2.02.39) Red Hat has integrated devmapper sources into lvm2. This has occured after devmapper release 1.02.28.
The old libdevmapper version blocks updating parted package to upstream version 2.1 (bug 511075), since parted 2.1 requires libdevmapper >= 1.02.33.
It's high time that lvm2, libdevmapper and parted got updated to their latest respective versions.
After that, the new lvm2 and libdevmapper Ubuntu packages should probably be build from the same lvm2 sources.

The bulk of this was already fixed in Lucid last week. If 2.02.59 is specifically needed, please reopen, but it isn't needed for parted which is the main thrust of your report.
lvm2 (2.02.54-1ubuntu1) lucid; urgency=low
