unlock window doesn't show after screensaver

When I lock my screen, the screensaver comes up. When I try to unlock the screen, I can't see the unlock window, but I can still enter my password and unlock the computer. Running Linux Mint 8 Helena on a HP Pavilion dv7-1450US.

I have this bug on a Sony Vaio VGN-SR19VN. The screensaver stops moving and disappears eventually (approx 30 seconds).

A temporary fix is to just not use the screensaver.

I'm seeing similar behavior in mint 12 and it is very annoying.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Log in (assuming mint 12).
2. Lock screen using ctrl+alt+l
3. wait ~ 30 minutes
4. hit the ctrl key to bring up the login screen.

Nothing appears. The screen remains black.

My machine is a Dell Latitude E6250 series with dual monitors on a docking station.

In my last comment I forgot to mention that I'm using Gnome 3

I have linux mint Nadia (14). I'm facing the same problem.
and when I am working on vmware workstation and I go back
to linux the lock screen get triggered if I was Idle in my windows vm.
