Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

The in-line image display used to be automatic now it's not working, when you used to add an image, it would reference the image in the html.
Now in evolution 2.6.1, it display the image in the composer when you add it but the reference is for the local file so when the mail is received by the other party they can't see the image.
I posted this on evolution mailing list and it appears to be a distribution specific issue.

Thanks for your bug. What do you mean by "The in-line image display used to be automatic now it's not working", that you have to click on the attachement to display it when you receive a mail? Do you have a pointer to that upstream discussion? We don't use a lot of patches for that package so it's likely to be an upstream issue

When you try to insert an image on the composer window, it will display it, but it won't send it attached to the msg.
Then I notice that the problem seems to be in the composer preferences, I have the forward style as inline and it doesn't attach the in-line image, if I change the forward style to attachment then it works well.
In previous version it worked well in both forward styles so the behaviour has change.
I posted this on evolution mailing list but it seems nobody is having issues with it, although the fact that I'm sending an image in a new message has anything to do with "forward inline style"

Thanks for your bug. There is a bug upstream about that: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341258

I've pointed that bug and forwarded the comments upstream too

Razboinik quoted: "When you try to insert an image on the composer window, it will display it, but it won't send it attached to the msg."

Additionally it will only send the image if I send it an an attachment. Sending it inline does not work. Recipient only receives an image holder. I sent an image inline to myself.

Sending inline used to work. I have emails in my Sent folder which were composed inline.

Razboinik quoted: "Then I notice that the problem seems to be in the composer preferences, I have the forward style as inline and it doesn't attach the in-line image, if I change the forward style to attachment then it works well."

I beg to disagree with these. Composer preferences referred to here isn't connected with sending images inline. They refer to reply format.

I have the same trouble and here is the analisis from my part :
- evolution debug log does not reveal any malfunction
- evolution does not even insert the image in the sent e-mail but does when the e-mail is saved
- in the received mail I can see that he doesn't even try to process the image : <IMG SRC="" ALIGN="bottom" BORDER="0">
The SRC is always empty

The files are png or jpg or gif : it's the same
Special caracters or space or only caracters in the filename : it's the same

Best regards

Found the bug (for me) : I've disabled the evolution rss plugin and now the inline images are sent along with the message.

Version of evolution RSS : 0.1.4

the failure is already fixed through a patch that, obviously, is not applied in the 0.1.4 version of ubuntu repositories.

The patch is named : evolution-rss-0.1.4 (inline images do not go out when sending emails in evolution)
And can be found in the same webpage of the creator : http://gnome.eu.org/evo/index.php/Evolution_RSS_Reader_Plugin
