with which kind of files? there's a similar report stating that for mpeg2 audio files. could you please get a rhythmbox debug log? please run it like : rhythmbox --debug &> rhythmbox-debug.txt ; reproduce the issue and attach the resulting file to the report, thanks in advance.

to confirm, you're using the crossfading backend? that might be the root of the cause here.

I'm noticing a problem that could be the same as the one mentioned here. Sometimes when I pause a song, it keeps playing even though Rhythmbox says it's paused. The only way to stop it that I've found is to close Rhythmbox.

I'm seeing the problem with a few mp3 files I have. Most seem to work properly, but some refuse to pause.

It only happens when crossfading is enabled. The problematic files pause properly when I disable crossfading.

I've attached a log of a reproduction of the problem. I opened a song, pressed play, and pressed pause a few seconds later. The title bar changed to say "test.mp3 (Paused)", but it continued to play.

its been a few months since this bug was reported. there have been a lot of improvements to rhythmbox and in-turns to its cross-fading backend. Could you again test with the latest version of rhythmbox included in ubuntu-10.10?
