Bug Description

Binary package hint: powerdevil

I've set a powersave profile as default at every "state" listed in the powerdevil configure screen in KDE. But when I start my computer, it doesn't choose that profile. KSysGuard shows me the CPU frequencies are not limited as I configured in my powersave profile. If I switch to for example Performance and then back to Powersave, everything works as expected.

Probably part of the cause: I use the nVidia drivers for my nVidia Quadro FX770M, which stressed power management in OpenSuSE too.

I see I forgot to mention this affects my fully patched Kubuntu 9.10

The problem appears to be that /etc/init.d/ondemand changes the scaling governor to ondemand after powerdevil has started up. sudo rm /etc/rc?.d/S05ondemand prevents this from running. This is not a perfect fix though, since it means that the governor is left at performance when not logged in.

To fix this properly, the initscripts should somehow detect that powerdevil is running and not attempt to change the scaling governor after powerdevil has started.

Yes, that fixes the problem. (it was S99ondemand instead of S05ondemand though)

This is invalid. We don't do userspace CPU speed management anymore.
