Bug Description

We create ISO images to distribute device drivers for Linux, MacOS and Windows, and we use a hybrid image containing ISO9660/RockRidge, ISO9660/Joliet and HFS filesystems. On Ubuntu 9.10 these images do not mount automatically, but needs to be mounted manually (and the filesystem specified, i.e. the kernel can not automatically determine what file system the image contains):

$ sudo mount /dev/sr1 /mnt
mount: block device /dev/sr1 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
tom@tom-laptop:/media/Home/code/software/development/cd0_e300.br/iso_image/build$ ls /mnt
tom@tom-laptop:/media/Home/code/software/development/cd0_e300.br/iso_image/build$ sudo mount /dev/sr1 -t iso9660 /mnt
mount: block device /dev/sr1 is write-protected, mounting read-only

We have tried generating the images with the latest versions of genisoimage or GNU mkisofs with the same results.
On earlier versions of Ubuntu, these images work fine.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately.]

This bug was reported against the linux-meta package when it likely should have been reported against the linux package instead. We are automatically transitioning this to the linux kernel package so that the appropriate teams are notified and made aware of this issue.

If this bug really is a bug in the linux-meta package you can move it back to linux-meta and tag it kj-linux-meta, or contact us on the #ubuntu-kernel channel on the FreeNode IRC server. Thanks.

affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)

I've seen the same issue with the Ubuntu release 10.04 LTE.
When I burn a R/W CDRom with:
genimageiso image with HFS/RR/JOLIET: it is not recognized
genimageiso image with HFS/RR: it is not recognized
genimageiso image with RR/JOLIET: it is recognized

If I use the Gmount-iso tool to mount images that was not previously recognized, the image is properly mounted.

It seems that between the Ubuntu release 9.04 and the 9.10 that something has been broken in how the system detects which filse-system are present on the media, when this one contains HFS information.

I've put in attachment an empty HFS/RR image not recognized by the system.

What does «series» mean? Ubuntu Version?

This bug still exists in Ubuntu 11.10.
