Can you paste is the full error you get when sending/connecting to your smtp server?

Are you sure the credentials are 100% correct?

Hi,
I have a simular problem. I changed my password on the server and thunderbird noticed that the old password don't work anymore (correct!). I entered my new password and all is fine on IMAP. I got all my mails. But if I'm trying to send an email, the same password don't work with thunderbird (it works with evolution). No caps-lock or something...
Other test-passwors like 123456 works on thunderbird too. The problem is password value dependent.

I reckon thunderbird can't handle language specific special keys like € ü ö ä ß Ü Ö Ä (in germany for example) with SMTP.

Pyrrhus,
We have no way of knowing if your bug is the same. Please use the following command to file a new bug report
ubuntu-bug thunderbird

Are you sure your server allows those chars?

Can you also please run the following command in a terminal:
apport-collect 509955

Hi John,

thank you for your answers. Yes I'm sure that the server allows those chars. The password is a global one. All other services run correct with the new password. So I thought the problem is the SMTP server. But our admin demonstrates me: All works fine with evolution.

I want to execute your command on Monday on the correct computer.
I'm a little bit confused. Shall I create a new bug by executing "ubuntu-bug thunderbird"? I found this bug by executing exact this command. I thought "Looks like the same" but it does not attach my system information to 509955.
Or shall I execute "apport-collect 509955" instead of "ubuntu-bug thunderbird"?

Hi,
Got the same bug as Pyrrhus.
Bug doesn't occur on Ubuntu 10.04 i686 (used the same config which didn't work on x86_64)
Bug affects tb versions downloaded via apt-get and manually (also older versions)
Tested 3.02 3.03 and 3.04 neither of them worked.

Additional information:
Bug affects my "Identity" settings. If I set my identity to
"T. Weißschuh <mail>" this bug occurs:

"An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: This user account is not authorized to send messages with the address ?ISO-8859-1?Q?22T2E_WeiDFschuh22?. Please adjust your e-mail client settings and try again.. Please check the message and try again."

Obviously some encoding goes wrong.

I remember a similar bug that I think already has an upstream bug watch. Can someone search the Triaged Thunderbird bugs for something similar to this?
