Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

On UBUNTU, using FireFox to view YouTube movies,
FF says there are PlugIns needed (and refuses to proceed) whereas Konqueror shows the movie without difficulty.
I already obtained the oplugin (or believe that I did) as directed BY FIREFOX ITSELF.

Is this [1] a failure of Youtube (in decoding that I'm using firefox)
[2] a failure of FireFox in TELLING YouTube that the plugin exists?
[3] a failure of firefox to OBSERVE that the PlugIn is in place (I DID put it there, after all)
or [4] what?

How do I demonstrate (to myself and to LAUNCHPAD) that I DO (or DO NOT) have the right PlugIn?

Hi.
According to your profile_default_pluginreg.dat.txt file, you have swf-dec installed. I would recommend that you remove that, and try again.

Thank you,

Montel Edwards

I've got no idea where this profile data came from or what it means.
Especially, I've got no idea how to remove this thing.
My searches don't locate swf-dec or swf-dec.*.

You must know that Ubuntu is a jungle for the uninitiated. we just
download stuff either because Ubuntu suggests it ir because a demand for
PLUGINS suggests it.

I am sorry. The name of the package is swfdec-mozilla.

Because you have swfdec-mozilla installed and Flash, they may be conflicting.
Removing one or the other may help fix the issue.

SORRY --
I did SCRIPTS: "temporarily allow all this page" and everything is
working. (I had already done an "allow youtube" which partially unblocked.)

As you can see, I don't really understand this anti-virus stuff.

Montel Edwards:

Thanks so much for all your attention.

All the jive about JavaScript and plugins
was a mere distraction and unhelpful error message from fireFox

  This was all my fault.
  I AM USING FireFox NoScript.

When I click "allow all this page" movies work
When I only click "allow youtube.com" movies DO NOT work.

I had thought that "allow youtube.com" would have been enough.
There is not much documentation for NoScript.

TOO BAD NoScript didn't say : "NoScript PREVENTS Movies"
instead of jive about JavaScript and plugins
