Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

After clicking on the Connect button in Nautilus the button's text changes to Connecting... indefinitely (abandoned the connection after 5 minutes). The button's text should change to "Disconnect" after the Ubuntu One desktop client has successfully connected to the server. Expected time that the client would take to connect would be no more than 1 min. At the moment the client cannot connect even though it has connected to the server before when Ubuntu One was first set up on the PC.

Hi Sebastien, I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One isn't working properly for you. Can you please provide the following information so we can get to the root cause of this problem?

1) Can you attach the following log files?
    ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/oauth-login.log
    ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncadaemon-exceptions.log
2) Are you behind a proxy server?
3) Are you using NetworkManager?

Thank you,

Joshua

Currently my machine is not using a proxy server. Wicd is being used instead of Network Manager for wireless networking, since Ubuntu 9.10's Network Manager does not work properly compared to Ubuntu 8.04's one.

NA - Try using the Karmic beta PPA and see if that fixes the problem. This version removes the dependency on Network Manager.

After installing the updates when I click on the Connect button there is an extremely brief connection (1 sec) made to the server before disconnecting. Also I have noticed that the Ubuntu One desklet briefly shows just the cloud when there is a connection instead of the cloud containing the exclamation mark.

Hi NA, You installed the PPA Matt pointed you to? If so, then you may need to set the Ubuntu One client preferences to always show the icon if you want to see it. By default, the icon will disappear when there is no activity. If you put a file in your ~/Ubuntu One folder, is the file synchronized? If not, please attach your newest syncdaemon-exceptions.log files. Thank you, Joshua

Ubuntu One desktop client has failed to sync the files properly. I cannot see the new files using the web client. Currently the Ubuntu One desktop client is set to only show the icon when updating, however the icon is always shown despite the fact that the client is not updating at the moment.

Hi NA, Thank you for attaching the log files. Based on what is showing there, it doesn't seem like you have the latest version of the client installed. Can you run the following command from a terminal session (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) and let me know what it reports?

sudo apt-cache policy ubuntuone-client

Also, please make sure you quit the Ubuntu One client and start it up again after doing the update. If you can't see the Ubuntu One client to quit it, you can quit it from a terminal session with the following command:

killall ubuntuone-syncdaemon ubuntuone-client-applet

Thank you,

Joshua

There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current ubuntuone-client. If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running

apport-collect -p ubuntuone-client 508530

Additionally answer any questions asked by Joshua.

thank you,

Problem no longer exists in Ubuntu 10.04. However the Restart button does
not work properly. In order to restart the UbuntuOne service one has to
click on the Disconnect button, then the Connect button.
