Bug Description

Binary package hint: pitivi

Video may be played one or two times, after which always the following popup windows is shown:

<snip>
GStreamer encountered a general resource error.

pulsesink.c(290): gst_pulsering_is_dead (): /GstPipeline:pipeline1/GstBin:pitivi-audiosink/GstAutoAudioSink:autoaudiosink2/GstPulseSink:autoaudiosink2-actual-sink-pulse
</snap>

Sound works fine on the machine with all other programs, so I guess its PiTiVi specific.

Strange, I'm running ubuntu 9.10 with pulseaudio and pitivi git (and the gstreamer-developers PPA), and never experienced this issue...

I received the same error from pitivi Also on ubuntu 9.10 amd64. For me, error only occurs when video is added from sources into the project and I try to play it back. The error only began to occur after I ran kdenlive at the same time. Before then, I did not have any problems with pitivi.

I was editing mpeg encoded videos. I have the following gstreamer packages installed:

Does it affect only a specific video file?
Does it still occur after logging out of your desktop session and logging back in, or even a reboot?

No, different files, but all from the same camera.

Yes, even after a reboot I can play the video back once and afterwards I
persisently get the error.

Can you provide a sample video file?

I provide 2 short movies clips.
To reproduce the bug:

1) Drag both files into the PiTiVi main window on the field (Import your movies by dragging them here ...).
2) Drag the movies from the above window into the timeline below, so that one movie starts as soon as the other ends.
3) Click the "play" button of the preview window.

Ok, with your provided sample files, I can finally reproduce the problem. Seeking them in the timeline causes gstreamer errors as described with pitivi git; I guess this will also need to be tested with the soon-to-be-released gstreamer packages too (or maybe Ed can try it).

I am experiencing the same problem. Is there an easy workaround like add the gstreamer ppa or piviti ppa? I am currently using karmic packages with no ppas.

Also, I am using i686 not amd64.

Yes, do test with
https://launchpad.net/~gstreamer-developers/+archive/ppa and
https://launchpad.net/~rowinggolfer/+archive/pitivi-unstable (depends on the gstreamer ppa)

And see if it makes any difference.

I added a screencast and debug logs in the upstream bug report, hoping this will help in figuring out wtf is going on.
