Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdepim

KMail creates temporary files with template NAME_[XXX].EXTENSION when user opens an attahcnment.

Microsoft Office 2003 cannot open files with name containing '[' or ']' symbols. So user cannot open xls or doc attachments from KMail via installed MS Office (yes, I know that most people does not use MS Office in Ubuntu).

I suggests to remove '[' and ']' symbols from temporary attachment file template.
Both KDE 3.5.x and 4.x ara affected.
Patch for 8.04 is available.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

The issue you are reporting is an upstream one, so do you still have the problem (without your patch) with a more up-to-date version?

If so, it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug (including the patch!) to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/KDE. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status.

If you want me to send the upstream report, that is not a problem, let me know!
Thanks in advance.
