This bug was reported against an earlier version of Ubuntu, can you test if it still occurs on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx)?

Please note we also provide technical support for older versions of Ubuntu, but not in the bug tracker. Instead, to raise the issue through normal support channels, please see:

    http://www.ubuntu.com/support

If you are the original reporter and can still reproduce the issue on Lucid, please run the following command to refresh the report:

  apport-collect 507086

Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report.

If you are not the original reporter, please file a new bug report, so we can work with you as the original reporter instead (you can reference bug 507086 in your report if you think it may be related):

  ubuntu-bug openoffice.org

If by chance you can no longer reproduce the issue on Lucid or if you feel it is no longer relevant, please mark the bug report 'Fix Released' or 'Invalid' as appropriate, at the following URL:

I can confirm this still to be there for 10.10

OpenOffice becomes ugly slow once you copy (CTRL-C) a file name in the file name textbox of the file save dialog for instance the file save dialog respond after a while. However there is no CPU usage then, you can not paste what you have copied. The clipboard has the text copied available and you can past it into any other application.

Seems to be fixed in Natty at least for me.

Have Kubuntu 10.04 installed on some 15+ systems here and all of them are affected. Happens under specific circumstances... to repeat, I do the following...

Open a new spreadsheet.
Enter some text into a few cells.
copy and paste those cells by using ctrl-c and ctrl-v or by using the toolbar buttons.
press esc to stop the "marching ants" around the original cells.
Do "Save As" and the delay is obvious... try changing directories in the dialog... takes almost 30 seconds to display root (3GHz system with sata drives).

To stop the delay... copy some cells (ctrl-c or button), move the active cell and press enter (quick copy?).
Now try save-as... speed is back.

Note, I have the kubuntu backports ppa added and a number of kde apps are still from that repo. Have yet to try on Ubu... will do that as soon as I get a chance.

Tested with 3 Ubuntu 10.04 systems and the issue is not there. All systems tested were up to date as of the last couple of days. Might be KDE-centric?

unabomber, thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please attach a Calc file that demonstrates this problem? Does this problem occur for you in LibreOffice Calc?

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade && sudo apt-get -y install libreoffice-calc

Hello Christopher,

1. This issue is resolved in OpenOffice but not in LibreOffice
2. It is not a specific document which makes the trouble. Please follow these steps to reproduce:
a. Create a new document
b. Open the save dialog and enter a filename there. Now mark the filename and copy it to the clipboard. Press save and try to paste the copied string into the document. The whole office should be slowed down right now (at least the copy and paste functionality)

LibreOffice 3.3.0

tag libreoffice-3.3.0.4, Ubuntu package 1:3.3.0-1ubuntu1

PS: In germany here, Copy+Paste is very important right now. (SCNR, internal joke for all germans)

This is unreproducible in Ubuntu 10.10 LibreOffice Calc at the Terminal:

localc -nologo

Click File -> Save As -> drop-down File name: example -> copy the word example -> drop-down File type: ODF Spreadsheet (.ods) -> Save button -> copied example in A1 no noticable slowdown occurred.

This is reproducible under kde with libreoffice-kde installed. Without this it works without problems. So it is related to the kde integration.
