Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

In a new install of 9.10 on a Dell Inspiron 500m, suspend and hibernate work out of the box. However, activating the lid switch produces a hung machine with black screen and fixed pointer.

Followed the suggestions in Bug 138256, but ForceEnablePipeA true does not affect the behavior.

Booting with the kernel options nomodeset to disable KMS does work around the problem and the lid switch behaves correctly.

This issue was reported against karmic, so can you confirm if this issue exists with the most recent Lucid Lynx 10.04 Alpha release? ISO CD images are available at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid/ . Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem with 9.10. My system is a Dell Latitude d400. On lid close, I get a black screen with an immobile white cursor. No key combo (ctrl+alt+f1, fn+f8) allows recovery.

If I suspend the machine before closing the lid, on opening the login screen comes up appropriately. If more information is required, please let me know how to get it.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.

I have the same problem. Mine is dell inspiron 500m, when I close the lid, the screen black out, with pointer fixed. The only way to recover is to press the power button for a few seconds. I am using X-Ubuntu, but the same problem happened to Ubuntu 9.0 as well. I am new to Ubuntu, just wondering if there is an easy to way to fix this problem. Thank you!
