Bug Description
Binary package hint: gksu
1. Ubuntu Release: ubuntu 9.10 x86_64
2. Source package: ubuntu installer ubiquity
Version: 2.0.8
3. I wanted to install Ubuntu on a local hard drive. I expected that my partitions/hard drives were listed
4. I couldnt instsall because the installer seemed not to recognize my hard drive, although fdisk -l works and I can mount partitions under the live image (see long description for more details)
Long description:
When I try to install Ubuntu on my harddrive the dialog "Die Partitionen vorbereiten" (Prepare the partitions) does not list any partition. The list is completely empty.
The behaviour is the same no matter if I start the installer from the cd directly selecting "Install Ubuntu" in the boot menu or if I boot the live image and start ubiquity from the quick start icon on the desktop.
The realy strange thing is, that if I start the installation from the live image I can get a list of my partitions on the hard drive using fdisk -l. I also can mount them. Everything works like normal.
The situation occures since I installed ubuntu 9.10 on a usb stick (not the live image, but a real installation like the usb stick 8gb was a regular hard drive). It seems that during this installtion ubuntu replaced my bootloader on my harddrive and since. So since that time (it was Thruesday this week i think) I cant boot from my hard drive anymore and I also cant fix this situation by simply installing ubuntu on one of my partitions.
I think the situation that my partitions are not listed in the installer menu is caused by a bug in the installar.
Please let me know if you have a fix for this.
Thank you.

Sorry I confused something it was the i386 version on which I filed the bug, but the problem occures on both the installers for the i386 and the x86_64 version of ubuntu.
