Trying to copy files to the launcher of a Folder should work.

Instructions to Reproduce:
1. from the Places Menu drag your home folder to the desktop. this creates a usable icon which you can open and close (works fine).
2. Try do drag a text file or jpg file into the icon with the intention to copy the files to your home folder.
3.Watch it not work

I've included a screenshot of the launcher properties and error, perhaps it's useful.

I'm using latest dapper version w/ updates

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'gnome-desktop'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.

This seems to be expected behaviour. The 'folder' created by dragging the icon, is not a folder, but a launcher to the Home Folder (i.e. .desktop file). So you can't drag a file to a launcher. Closing this bug. If you think this is an error, you can always re-open it. Thanks.

Even if it is a launcer of a folder a user expects that if he drags a file into it, the most logical thing to do is move those files to the place the .desktop file points to (the folder).

Sometimes users don't care if it's a symlink or launhcer or .desktop file / etc. They just want to be able to drag files into their home folder (even if it is a launcher etc).

I'm sorry but i still believe this should be default behavior. Most users don't know when they create .desktop files or launchers and just expect things to "Just Work". I know perhaps this is a lot of work but it should be the default action when the .desktop file launches a folder. Either this or when copying home from the places menu should active the nautilus gconf string to show home folder on desktop. The best option is to make even launchers of folders copyable to.

OK Setting package from (undefined) to nautilus, so it gets out the list of bugs without package.

I'm sorry but i checked the other bug report and they are not the same, however i did find exactly the same situation on gnome bugzilla, if you could link it please... (i dont know how to link to another bug outside of launchpad)
