HedgeMage:
Update_status is new in Drupal 6. It was activated during the upgrade process, but we should check to be sure that the default settings suit us and change them if needed.

Checked today, it seems okay as I can tell. The only thing it does it showing the updates for Drupal if available, but for the most part we aren't updating in a while. So closing this one as fixed.
