Mailing list "Index(es): Date / Thread" links don't go to the right place

At the bottom of <https://lists.launchpad.net/launchpad-dev/msg00823.html> are two links:

    Index(es):
        _Date_
        _Thread_

Apparently these links are supposed to show that message listed in the context of other messages posted around the same date, or in the same thread. However, neither of them work: they take you to the first page of batched messages by {date, thread} for the month, while the message in question is on another batched page.

One way of fixing this would be not to batch the monthly archive pages. Another would be for the links to have the smarts to link to the correct batched page.

I agree it is a bug. I don't think it's worth the effort that would be required to fix it, though, or at least that would be required for us to fix it. MHonArc is doing the indexing. It's a Perl program that we use as-is -- we wrote a conf file to drive it, but we've never hacked the code itself.

We could forward the bug to http://mhonarc.org/. However, there is apparently no bug tracker there, there hasn't been a new release since 2006, there hasn't even been a commit since last May, and the most recent message on the dev list is from last July. I'm not even convinced that forwarding is worth the time in this case; the program appears for all practical purposes to be unmaintained.

Sorry if that sounds discouraging; just trying to be realistic. Mailing list UI is not in our core focus right now.
