Bug Description

Binary package hint: software-center

I was using software-center to install GnuCash on my lucid installation. With 18-hour-old package lists, I was greeted 3% in (past "loading software list", IIRC) with a dialog informing me a number of untrusted packages would need to be installed. The only choice was "OK". Once clicking "OK" I could then cancel the installation.

There were no options to update the software ilst, nor any hints that updating the software list was the right thing to do. This seems like it would be a *very* scary dialog.

I used update-manager to update the package lists (and installed some updates while I was at it), and GnuCash now installs successfully.

I'm not able to comment on this bug anymore. I had a hardware failure on my lucid system so I'm unfortunately out of testing for now.

Hopefully someone can confirm, if this bug in fact still exists. Otherwise I will revisit it when I am again able to test.

Should software-center check for untrsuted packages before installing them?

Why have software in the software center which can't be installed? I was able to install Pan Newsreader via synaptic by overriding untrusted status ... Are all these packages really untrusted? or just not on the Ubuntu servers? I did not have this problem with 9.04 or 9.10.

The solution was to click "reload" in the synaptic manager.
