Bug Description

Binary package hint: libc6-xen

Please backport libc6-xen to dapper. Given how long dapper will be with us, a Xen friendly libc would be highly desirable.

I wasn't trying to ask that glibc be backported - just the xen patches to create a libc6-xen for dapper's existing version of glibc. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

I'd like to support this request. Xen should be working in a Long Term Support server.

Dapper can't run as a xen guest. so this will never happen. Core libs cant be backported ever under any circumstances.

Updating core libs would fall under stable release updates. Update for such a core package to support functionality in Dapper is very unlikely. LTS means that the packages in Dapper will be updated for secuity issues, It doesnt meant hat dapper will have the latest and greatest packages, that would be more of a debian sid or testing versions and they are not stable were as dapper is stable.

Me too. I tried to compile the glibc6 by myself for dapper, how it was discribed here: http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/UbuntuDapperHowTo But i was not able to do it. After installing the packages i get also the "4gb fixup ..." messages. So had to install the libc6-xen from edgy :-/

So, what could be the problem? I searched several days, without success :-(

For the record, dapper does seem to work as a guest in etch's Xen. So "Dapper can't run as a Xen guest" would appear to be no longer true, at least as of March 2008.
