I've been doing some work mastering custom live cds based on Ubuntu - as part of the environment I will be running them in, I needed to re-enable the screen locking functionality in live mode.
The default behaviour is: by clicking on 'lock screen' the screen fades black, but moving the mouse brings the desktop back, ie no password dialog. This is desirable if no password is set, (which is usually the case in a Live CD boot). But it does this even if a password has been set for the live user.
The desirable behaviour is, do the above if no password is set for the live user, otherwise upon moving the mouse a password dialog should be presented.
I (entirely by chance) enabled this desirable behaviour by removing the existing screen lock related code in casper - patches attached.

Most of that change is already in casper.
We still set a few keys to avoid the screensaver from starting at all during install and that's a wanted behaviour.
