Bug Description
Binary package hint: gnome-themes
The themes provided with Ubuntu do not adhere to the GtkReliefStyle property on GtkButtons properly.
#. GTK_RELIEF_NONE
When the button is drawn, the relief style appears to work, but when the mouse moves over the button, it switches back to GTK_RELIEF_NORMAL (instead of just brightening up a little perhaps?).
Toggle buttons with GTK_RELIEF_NONE are even worse, they switch to and hold GTK_RELIEF_NORMAL when toggled (instead of just darkening a little?).
#. GTK_RELIEF_HALF
This relief style has absolutely no effect whatsoever. I'm guessing its meant to just have the soft edge around the button but no gradient curvature over the button.
Here is a sample program that demonstrates relief behavior: http://
And two screenshots taken from Ubuntu 9.10 using the default theme (human-clearlooks):
1. http://
2. http://
In the 2nd screenshot, the mouse is hovering over the first button.
Using: Ubuntu-9.10 X86_64
gnome-themes-* 2.28.1-0ubuntu
Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May you please test with that version and comment back if you're still having or not the issue? Please have a look at http:// www.ubuntu. com/download to know how to install that version. Thanks in advance.
